Dengan memecah udara menggunakan impeler yang berputar dengan kecepatan tinggi, terbentuklah sejumlah besar gelembung mikro yang tercampur secara merata dengan limbah cair guna mencapai pemisahan yang efisien terhadap partikel tersuspensi dan minyak, serta pengoksigenan perairan. Sistem ini umumnya digunakan dalam sistem flotasi udara vortex serta proses pra-pengolahan dan pengolahan biokimia limbah cair.
